The first is the Charlotte Douglas International Airport location and the second is the Raleigh–Durham International Airport location. One of the reasons the Whisky River Restaurants have grown in popularity so fast is because of who the owner of the restaurant chains. After winning millions during his NASCAR career, Dale Earnhardt Jr wanted to be smart with his money. So he chose to invest in property to bring something fun to North Carolina. The original Whisky River was located in the EpiCentre in Charlotte, NC. It was originally a nightclub. When Earnhardt took over ownership in collaboration with HMSHost, the restaurant was brought to life using a Wild West theme (to match his Wild West Town-themed home he calls “Whisky River”). Since their opening in 2016, both airport locations have been voted as the best airport bar and sitdown dining (4 years in a row).
Another reason North Carolina residents love Whisky River Restaurants so much is because of the delicious food and the fun atmosphere that includes a live band from the stage on specific nights. They also feature cocktails made with Midnight Moon Original Moonshine. These are highly recommended if you need something to calm your nerves before boarding your flight.
